The Masters of Science in Information Assurance
(listed as "InfAs" in the Iowa State
Bulletin) is a multidisciplinary degree supported
by six departments from three Iowa State Colleges.
These are: Computer Science, Electrical and Computer
Engineering, Industrial and Manufacturing Systems
Engineering, Logistics, Operations and Management
Information Systems, Mathematics, and Political
Science.
Because
the Masters of Science in Information Assurance
is a multidisciplinary degree program and not
a department, all students in the degree program
undertake their studies from a home department.
Any of the six departments that support the Information
Assurance program can be home departments. Applicants
should choose a home department that best matches
their undergraduate course background and career
goals.
To increase technology proficiency and policy
issues critical to the security of information
infrastructure, Iowa State faculty developed a
graduate certificate program for those who have
a bachelor of science in computer science, computer
engineering, or a closely related field.
The
program was launched in fall 2001. It is designed
to meet the needs of information system security
specialists in government, the private sector,
and educational institutions. The certificate
consists of four computer engineering courses:
computer networks and protocols (530), system
security (531), information warfare (532), and
cryptography (533).
The Information Assurance Center is home to an
assortment of research areas and projects. A list
of research areas can be found within this link
which will in conjunction offer a list of professors
contained within those research areas.
Iowa State University has received funding from
the National
Science Foundation Scholarships for Service
program to support students working in Information
Assurance. Each year we will award 10 undergraduate
and 10 graduate fellowships for two years of study
at Iowa State.
Program participants will take courses
in information assurance as part of their
regular degree requirements. In addition, all
scholarship recipients will become part of an
SFS cohort group and participate in academic and
social activities throughout the year. The scholarship
also requires a service commitment consisting
of a paid summer internship and one year of paid
employment at a federal agency.
IASG is a computer security club at Iowa State
University. Established in Aug 2003, we are dedicated
to teaching students, both members and non-members
of the club, how to deal with computer security
issues. We are commited to the highest standards
of integrity, excellence, and performance in dealing
with both faculty of Iowa State University and
other students.
Iowa State University, Information Assurance
Center, Iowa Chapter of Infragard, and Iowa Department
of Administrative Services have organized a three
day camp on ISU campus from Sunday, June 27 through
June 30, 2004. "Computer Security Summer
Camp" is for juniors and seniors in high
school.
We are taking applications
for the camp, the deadline to apply is March 15th.
The camp will be limited to 50 students that have
been selected by the review committee. All applicants
will be notified by April 1st. The cost for the
camp is $250.00
Each day you will be in computer labs that will
be conducted by ISU faculty in the Security Field,
Security Program Graduate Students, and Community
Experts. Through out the camp we will have guest
speakers that are experts in their fields. One
afternoon we will travel to Des Moines to tour different
companies that are related to Computer Security.
An Awards Banquet is planned for Wednesday evening
for students and their guests before departing from
camp.
The faculty workshop will include seminars and
the colloquium which are vital to improvement
in education beginning with the educators. The
Information Assurance Colloquium is a multi-disciplinary
platform for the discussion of all facets of computer
security and integrity. It is our intent that
the presentations be accessible to the entire
university community and represent not only the
research interests on campus but also the full
diversity of issues confronting everybody who
is taking part in the information revolution.
The faculty make the Information Assurance Center
possible and provide the research necessary to
continue the going projects at Iowa State University.
Contained in this link is a list of faculty that
currently participate in the Information Assurance
Center.
