The goal of the Information Systems Security
Laboratory is to examine security issues through
intrusion detection and counter measures to
an intrusion discovered in a network. The
facility utilizes both a wired and wireless
network infrastructure allowing for both forms
of traffic in the laboratory.
The facility consists of an environment containing
Linux and Windows XP desktops, file servers,
laptops, and palmtops connecting through both
wireless and wired connections. The components
of the network are connected to other components
through the use of Ad-Hoc and access points.
The facility will be designed to provide an
excellent environment to conduct state of
the art research in computer security and
security tool development. Use of the lab
by researchers will be charged back to research
contracts.
This laboratory supports the use of a series
of courses at Iowa State University. These
courses include Computer Network Architectures
(ComS 586), Principles of Operating Systems
(ComS 552), Distributed and Network Operating
Systems (ComS 554), Topics in Distributed
Operating Systems (ComS 652), and Computer
Network Architectures for Undergraduate Study
(ComS 486x).
We are creating several different opportunities
for sponsorship of the initiative, which include:
-
Equipment donations:
Companies providing equipment will be
given access to the facility and will
be given feedback on the equipment. If
they wish the equipment will be made available
for use by the users of the facility to
test out security solutions.
-
Monetary donations:
Monetary donations are welcome and proper
recognition will be given to all gifts.
-
Facility usage:
Access to the facility will be restricted
to University students and faculty. If
you have corporate interest please contact
Dr.
Johnny Wong.
Purpose: To create a secure and reliable
way to detect an intrusion into a network
through wireless access points and ad-hoc
topology.
